I wonder where the news on Catalyst 10.8 is.

Me too. I found a Guru 3D URL and the interesting part is that it's dated for tomorrow. ATI driver page is down for me at least, the "display results" button is not working.

Another extremely mediocre looking release from ATI, I'll continue to sit on the WHQL 10.4s.

Wondering..

Hi there,

Lets face it. The Driver which Apple provides for ATI Graphics, isnt really any good. Ok at best.

Why is there no attempt, what so ever, to create an OSX Version of the Catalysts Drivers from Users?

I am just trying to understand it.
In Linux you can, if you have to, write your own driver for your videocard. So why isnt it possible for OSX? The Code is open, and yet there is no attempt of user what so ever to mod and create.

Is it realy so restricted on OSX, or whats the reason?

Writing drivers ain't that easy. To make them better than the existing ones would be close to impossible or would at least require terrible amount of time and knowledge. There are custom drivers that some Hackintosh users use but performance wise, they suck.

It's not OS X' fault but the market for such drivers is way too small to be beneficial.

Ergh, yeah, remind me to only go nVidia from now on.

Anyone wanna buy a pair of 5870s? Upclocked and with enhanced cooling :p
