I've recently placed a flashed 512MB ATI Radeon 1900 into my Power Mac G5 (Late 05, 2.3DC). Now the fans all spin up at max speed and do not drop (which makes for a very noisy experience!) and the resolution on my 30" Cinema Display seems capped at 1280 x 800 no matter which DVI slot I use.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Maybe ask in one of the threads about flashing it?

(On a side note, it is perhaps useful to mention in the topic title that the issue is not about X1900 per se, but about flashing it went wrong.)

The flashing isn't wrong, at least not to my knowledge. I pulled it from another Power Mac G5 (a Quad in this case) and the fans are not going Berzerk in that machine with the same GPU inside.

Solved it. The issue was that, for whatever reason, the fans just go full throttle if running anything lower than Leopard. I'd installed the latest drivers and just assumed it'd work.

Bit of pain though, I prefer Tiger for the Classic Environment.

I think I have used X1900 (original one) with 10.4.11 with no issues. (My main system was 10.6, but I used to boot into 10.5.8 and 10.4.11 occasionally.)
Can’t check right now, GPU is swapped to Quadro FX.
