Anybody else bought these from the ATI store?

I recently (1 week ago) ordered 2x "Power Cables for Radeon® X1900 MAC G5 Edition" for a 5870 that I'm putting in my 2009 Mac Pro. Part number 6110024100G, SKU: 3280778

Weird thing is, they never gave me any tracking information, and right after I ordered it, I was sent to an Order Details window that didn't have any info besides my billing/shipping address, and a download link that contains a "hello.txt" that just has "Hello !!" inside of it. Very strange. And yes, I'm sure I went to ATI's official online store. Also tried to contact them via their little support page, and got another weird automated email from Digital River (whoever they are) saying that they couldn't get through to shopati.com to send them my support request.

Anyways, I'm pretty worried that I just spent $26 for something that I'll never get. The only reason I'm posting here, is because it has been suggested here a few times to get the cables from the ATI store. Has anybody else ordered from them and had a similar experience? Should I be worried that I'll never get these cables?

I ordered mine from ATI - the first time I waited six days, got frustrated and cancelled the order. The second time, I waited a week and they shipped then. You'll get them, it just takes a while.

Call them?

Believe it or not, they have no telephone number to call. This is not ATI itself, but the ATI "shop."

Many thanks for the info - gives me a little more confidence that I won't have to stop payment from my credit card.

Well, its been two weeks now, and apparently the cables haven't even been SHIPPED yet. There's not a place anywhere that even lets me contact them (already tried their support e-mail and it was just returned to me), and there's no apparent way to cancel my order. Am I buying these from the wrong site or something? http://www.atistore.com

This is truly terrible service, and I suggest anyone looking at buying the cables DO NOT buy them from the atistore.

That really sucks. You can cancel your order – I did, remember?

Still, troubling that you haven't heard anything.

Glad you had a positive experience, but something must have changed since then. How exactly did you go about canceling it? The only place I could find to cancel the order was to send them a support request via their "contact us" page (which basically just forwards out an email to service@shopati.com). And every email I send them I just get a "Warning: could not send message" email back from their MDS. And there was definitely no cancel order options anywhere on my order/account page or anywhere else I could find, nor any number to call.

I think the ATI store/shop has basically gone defunct in the time since you've ordered yours, which is a shame. You'd think an online store with an official ATI/AMD name attached to it would be a bit more reputable.

It does appear that DigitalRiver took over the ATI store. (They usually provide downloadable software sales infrastructure for a lot of companies.)

Back in 2008 when I got my 3870, it was run by ATI. In fact, I even had to RMA the first one I got (loud fan), and they had a phone number I could call. Was a pretty smooth process.

It's a shame to see that DigitalRiver pretty much screwed up the whole thing.

Apparently the store no longer thinks my email address is real, so I can't log in and see what page I went to. But on my order page there was a specific option to cancel the order. I wish I could be more specific but I don't remember what it all looks like and I can't access it, sorry.

Maybe this is why. If you go to the "My Account" pg it says:

If you have placed an order on shop.ati.com before 11/03/08, please click here to view your order status.

*Note to Existing Account Holders - if this is the first time you are making a purchase on the new store site you will need to create a new account.

That must've been when the switchover from ATI to DigitalRiver happened.

It would be nice if that were the case, but I ordered my cable in 2009, after the switchover.

That "hello.txt" thing is pretty funny... must have been maddening to find that when you're already ticked off about your order. :D

Heh - yeah my head would have exploded had it been a recent discovery - I actually saw it right after my order - I figured it might have been a placeholder link that just shows up in every order in case there was an actual downloadable product. Who knows though.

I ordered some cables from them about a year ago and paid for 2 day shipping.

The order was a No-Show after a week so I started emailing them @ service@Shop.ATI.com. A guy from Credit Card department looked into it for me. All he could say was "it should Ship soon" to which I pointed out "It SHOULD have shipped already". He offered to cancel transaction but I left the order up and it did indeed ship.

From their perspective, this is a VERY low profit item. They can't believe that all of them sold are really for G5s with X1900 cards whose power cables have broken. So they must know that these are being used for flashed Mac cards...ie, something on which they made no DIRECT Mac profit. If they are ATI cards, then they at least made something on the original card. If the cables get used on an Nvidia product, there is little benefit to them. In a way, selling these cables undermines their business. I'm surprised they sell them at all.

Did you see my post at open of big 4870 thread? You can make them yourself for like $4-6 each with a little patience and dexterity. And Newegg and Mouser (if in US) are much more serious about shipping these items quickly and giving you ability to see what's up with your order.

Thanks for the reply, Rominator. Yeah, I wasn't too worried about them not shipping after just one week - there are plenty of places that take that long before it ships out as well. But more than two weeks and not a peep - as well as their support email being returned to me (the very same one you used - service@shop.ati.com), was just a little too worrisome for me.

I make and solder cables all the time (for model airplanes and such), so your post was of great interest to me. My Sapphire 5870 Vapor-x had been sitting in its pristine box staring at me and burning a hole in my floor for half a month before that and I had just enough impatience that I didn't want to wait for all the separate cable components to come. I (mistakenly) thought that I could get cables from ATI faster. Since that didn't go through, I'm trying through svideo.com - who apparently offers 2 day air shipping for free... and had the next best price on the cables. But... if that doesn't work out (I'll let everybody know how svideo's service is), I'll definitely end up making the cables myself.

I'm worried as to why you paid $26 for cables you could have bought for $8 on ebay.

Because none of them are for sale on ebay for $8? $20 is the cheapest I could find for 1x cable. Besides, $26 was for the price of two of them. Also, ebay and I have some bad history. Much like the bad history the ATI Store and I now have. :D
