Don't you think that while Steve-O and ATT were talking, they should have discussed this?

I mean...if the iPhone was one of the only phones that could do this VideoOIP - they would have sealed the deal for iPhone-disbelievers.

All Apple had to do was include 3G - how hard was that?

you're right. they probably didn't add it cause it was too hard. I'm sure Apple and AT&T just have absolutely no idea what they're doing..

Apple IS including 3G. They said so. But that's a different model that will arrive later.

Why no 3G at launch? It would either come down to cost (most likely), battery life, and/or physical size. Balanced against demand: is there enough demand for a 2.5G version at first? It seems so And not everyone has access to 3G networks anyway.

I personally would certainly be glad to have 3G by the time I get my iPhone. In my case, 16GB storage is what I'm waiting for (and any version-B improvements that might arise). Which is nearly as certain to arrive (eventually) as 3G. I'd love a GPS too, and video conferencing, and iChat, and Flash, and video-out for presentations/movies if the iPhone doesn't already have it.

If I don't get all those things, I'll still get some of them

Is it just me or is 3g not really prominent in the states yet?
BTW, schuerman, you just opened a can of worms with this post. Don't get turned off by any hate that will come your way because of it. Lots of us think there were a few things botched that could have sealed the deal.

its fairly prominent with CDMA carriers. but not with GSM carriers yet. AT&T's 3G network is still somewhat in its infancy, especially compared to Europe and Asia.
