So last year while living in Ann Arbor, I usually had good 3G service in my dorm and around campus. However, this year, I am constantly getting horrible service. It keeps saying "Searching..." or "No Service". Yesterday at the football game in a giant wide open stadium, it said the same things.

What could have happened in a year? This has been very disappointing. My old room was 2 doors down from where I am now and I had great service there. 2 doors down changed this? Is ATT upgrading the area or something?

I found your post trying to google the problem I (and others) had yesterday. I also live in Ann Arbor, and lost complete service all day yesterday during the game with my Iphone. Couldn't text or call. It lasted from around 11 in the morning to about 9 at night. Everyone else I knew who also had AT&T, not only just an iphone, was also having problems. I imagine some kind of overload happened with everyone coming in for the football game.

I know they're a ways away, but I spent a week in Petoskey this summer. I never had anymore than 2 bars and only EDGE. If you used to have good coverage there, then I think AT&T must have done something with their towers. But, because they are constantly upgrading service in large markets all over the country, I would imagine that they will fix it because it is such a big school and not too far from Detroit

I hope it is fixed soon! It seems a little better at the moment. I just got scared that it could have been permanent. I hope it was just an upgrade or a failure of some sort!

I wasn't in town to check but service is always bad in and around the stadium on gameday.

you usually don't get service when you're at a football game or event like that. lots of att users on 1 tower is not good.

I was at the game and shut off 3G and was able to send a text sometimes on edge.

we'll this is encouraging. I live down in South Bend and was at the Notre Dame game Saturday and we had.. the exact same thing. Near the end of the game I finally got a signal and was able to SMS, but it would take about 10 attempts to make a phone call after the game. The weird thing, was that I lost ATT signal at home (about 20 minutes away) and then it came back right before we left, only to have it disappear again on campus.

I'll be up there this next weekend to see the game, should be a good one.

LOL - the exact same thing has been known to happen in Bloomington,IN where i go to school at Indiana U. Last year when we came back from winter break so many people got iPhones for the holidays that the towers were overwhelmed for a couple days. AT&T had to set up some kind of "service booster" trucks around campus lol

I was at the game. No 3g at all and barely able to send a message on Edge (maybe had 2 go through.) The same thing happens at festivals or other large gatherings. The towers can't handle the traffic. I sometimes bring in 2-way radios if I need to be in communication with anyone. They should definitely bring in temporary towers for the games.

The worst part is how AT&T is a major sponsor of UM athletics.

Fwiw, I'm 3 blocks from the stadium now and I get solid 3g speed and signal.

GO BLUE!

Complain

Complain to AT&T and the FCC about this. What if there was an emergency and you couldn't get a cell phone call. AT&T sucks. Only way to get it fix is complain.

Service seems to be stable now. I want to point out that service was bad the Friday before the game and a day after the game. A friend of mine said she saw a fallen tree on an ATT tower/line. I wonder if that was the problem?

I've had this problem the past two years in Ann Arbor. Like other people said, it is probably just due to the crazy influx of over 100,000 people that you expect on football saturdays. I have found that Edge will will usually work better than 3G, so I just turn off 3G when I go to the game (even this doesn't always work).

Just saw this post. Keep in mind that a lot of people might come to Ann Arbor the day before or stay the day after a game. Just a guess though, service is effected by a lot of things. I usually find that my service goes back to normal that night.

My service has been pretty stable since Saturday too...

Ann Arbor iPhone & AT&T Problems

We got our son an iphone last summer and it worked fine in Brighton. When he moved into the dorm on north campus in September it quit working. Coverage in the dorm is very spotty, but I can reach him and he can call out pretty much during the day, but not always.

The last time I spoke to AT&T they had him do a master reset which they vowed would not affect his address book, but he lost half his schedule & calendar which he is still trying to fix. But the spotty service still lingers.

Speaking as a father, I work too hard to earn money to pay the humongous AT&T bills for irregular and spotty service. By the way, he had the same problem at Michigan stadium.

Please someone tell me everything got fixed and we won't have this problem again.

Otherwise, I would wait for Verizon's product in December.

Why is it when I go to large sports events inalways see sprint and verizon cell on wheels but no AT&T cell on wheels?! Hell if any network needs extra capacity it's AT&T!!! Makes you want to goat around another phone on a different carrier almost!
