ATT v Verizon v T-Mobile - in NYC w/Android

Ok -

Since ATT is going to let us out of our contracts when they raise unlimited pricing by $5, my wife and I are contemplating switching carriers. Since they are stopping subsidized phones - there's even less reason to stay.

T-Mobile squeeks ahead on price coming in at ~$110 for 12 gigs shared including taxes. No contract.
Verizon would be ~$130 for 12 gigs shared including taxes. Pricier - but we need to check if we get a corp discount.
Staying with ATT but switching to a shared plan nets us 15gb for ~$115 with our FAN discount. This would be ~$35 cheaper than sticking with unlimited after the price increase.

My wife and I don't use more than 5gb each per month at max.

So - if we assume (for the moment) that we'll have a corp discount on Verizon - we're really looking at (ballparking) almost the same give or take $5.

Do we switch off ATT (and with who) - or stick with them. We both have Android phones.

Also - which of the three (or all) allow for tethering under these new plans?

Personally? I would stick with AT&T. The reality of the industry is subsidies are deader than dead and no one is price competitive (except Sprint which sucks as a carrier).

I would personally go with T-moblie in NYC. From my experience, they simply have the best data & voice coverage in NYC and surrounding areas. And there data seems to be the fastest. I get and average of 80-90Mbps Dwn and 15-20Mbps Up on data speeds.

AT&T still has issues with dropped calls, even in spots with great signal. Over the last several years, I've noticed Verizon has complete dead spots(voice & data) in ALL the boroughs. More dead spots than I normally dealt with on any carrier.

Several years ago, I would have gave Verizon the title of reliability in NYC. Today I give the title to T-mobile. And unlike several years ago, T-mobile now works great in places where Verizon would always shine, like elevators, basements, and etc.

Now Verizon is still the best nationwide as far as coverage, but T-mobile seems to be closing that gap. So if you travel in rural areas on the road, I would go with Verizon. But if you're just concerned with populated areas, then T-mobile is the best at the moment.

This is just my experience with these carriers. And please ....Don't even think about looking towards Sprint, unless you enjoy headaches.

If you do go with T-mobile. Definitely get JUMP. Their service is top notch. I had my S6 Edge replaced with a brand new(not refurb) one, in exactly one day via FedEx. Cause I cracked my screen.

Foxfi still works on Verizon at least with Samsung phones. Don't know if appending ', dun' to Tmobile APN still work. Either way take advantage of Samsung ultimate test drive to try both Verizon and Tmobile. I'm on Verizon but when I tried Tmobile it was just as good in the areas I frequent and with band 12 roll out it'll be even better.

You should probably stick with AT&T for now, mainly because those prices don't include new handsets. So if you stay with AT&T you can keep using your current phones, if you switch to Verizon you'll have to buy new phones which will increase the price.

You could get those unlocked and move to T-Mobile, but not sure if the phones you have will have the proper band support for tmo.

AT&T does allow you using mobile hotspot (or tethering) with its Mobile share plans.
