Attach external digital camera to iPhone?

I want to attach a digital camera to the iPhone then download the photos onto the iPhone. From there I can upload them to a site for viewing.

Is there a connecting wire/software that will allow this? I'm going on vacation and won't be taking my mac, but I want high-quality pics of the trip and would like friends/family to see a few before I return.

Argh! This is exactly what I want to do as well. I'm going on a long distance bike tour, not taking a laptop (obviously) and I yet I want to be able to upload photos from my DSLR to my website. I've set it up so that I can very easily do this using the iPhone's built-in camera but obviously those photos aren't nearly as high quality.

Perhaps one of the reasons Apple has made this impossible is that when they come out with future versions of the iPhone (like the 3Gs etc. etc.) which have better cameras, they want to have that be a major reason to upgrade. If you can easily load photos from a really high quality DSLR then you have less of a reason to upgrade your phone. Hmm...

Wifi, and there may be manufacturers currently designing custom docks and Bluetooth device with proprietary hardware interfaces. None exists currently, except for using wifi.

How about some other model of handheld which supports both SD cards and wifi?

I didn't think cameras had wifi (i know my digital SLR doesn't), how would you interface them connection the iphone to wifi is one thing but the navagation a camera is not as cut and dry, probably be better off with bluetooth

Well this would only work if your camera took ad mem cards. But there's a cool card called the eyefi. Google it. You can upload direct from the camera

The concept of the iPhone opperationg as a host computer to other services is a cool idiea, it's got the power make it a full fledged pc,

If you plug anything USB into the iPhone that's not a computer, the iPhone simply emulates the host computer.

Though this has to be 5 years off in the future

I really hope some one can develop something like this. Would love to be able to hook up the reverse camera on my car and have it display on the iphone while in the car cradle. There has got to be some smart ass out there that can do this.

I know this is an old post, but I'm actually planning on picking up an Eye Fi card for a few upcoming trips I'll be taking; I'm really excited to try it out.
