Hi,
I have the new Macbook Air and I want to tether my Nikon D7500 DSLR so that I can use the Air as a monitor. However, I believe the HDMI lead from camera to mac won't work as the HDMI will only take signals from the Air. So, my question is (before I splash out on a wrong cable) would a cable - mini HDMI to USB-C work? Would the Air then be able to take the input from the camera?

The MBA will not display any video connected to it's ports (HDMI or USB-C). It is not a monitor. The MBA will only output video to external devices/monitors. Don't waste your money on cables to display external video on the MBA screen.

Maybe try something like MacroDSLR app. According to the Information about the app it does support live view. They seem to have a trial version you could try out.

Will check out MacroDSLR but feel that I'll always get the same non connectivity problems with the 2020 Macbook Air. I'm thinking now of trying to use my Ipad as a monitor - it's a few years old now running 12.4.6 - any views on this?
