Yes, I'm still trying to get this game to work..

I've gone through a multitude of emulators and wrappers until I was directed to try WineBottler - and so far that's the only thing that's allowed me to even give me a glimmer of hope towards getting this old PC game to work.

I've got MacOS X 10.5.8, and I've installed the most recent WineBottler combo (which includes Wine). This game is relatively old, and when I used to attempt to run it through Wine originally it said that 16-bit/DOS support was missing. I can't play the game on DOSBox because it needs Microsoft Windows, and I can't install Windows on DOSBox because I don't have a license [a variety of brick walls, I know].

So WineBottler is my last hope - and in attempting to run it tonight I've been experimenting with some prefixes to see if I can find the right Wine settings (?) to make this little baby run - and I finally got the "Microsoft Home" advertisement that is at the beginning of the game... but I keep getting the message: "winevdm.exe has experienced a serious problem and needs to close." Now, I kept getting this message earlier - but I also never got to the opening screen of the game...

Does this mean I just need to continue messing around with the prefixes and eventually I'll find the magic combination? And if so... I have no idea what most of those prefixes mean. I'm not totally tech savvy, and really need some help, and Google has gotten me nowhere... I've still got the install logs from my previous attempts, and if anyone needs to see those, I can certainly post them. But any help is really appreciated at this point... I'm at my wits end.

Can you open up Console and see what messages wine is writing? It's easier to solve a problem if you know what the error is.

Using Wine or WineBottler is not a gaming solution nor is it a window solution either depending on what you need to use windows for. Some windows applications will work. But not everything will work under wine or Wine Bottler.

Go and buy an OEM Windows CD, xp or window 7 that has service pack 2 and use bootcamp instead.

A) What game is it.
B) WineSkin is much better than WineBottler.

A) Gahan Wilson's Ultimate Haunted House
B) WineSkin didn't get me nearly as far as WineBottler has. It just kept crashing or not loading.
