Just jailbroken one of my ATV2's (using Seas0nPass) - still tethered jailbreak though.
Fairly easy and no problems. Installed XBMC Eden also fairly easy.

One question though, how to do i change the "settings" icon back to the default as opposed to the Firecore version?

On step 6 of their instructions, it says that the new icon for the settings app is temporary. Have you tried restarting the aTV?

The official instructions tell you:- Seas0nPass, see step 6.

well technically it doesn't.
it mentions a temporary icon, but doesn't state another reboot would clear it.

Step 6: iTunes will confirm the restore when complete - your Apple TV is now jailbroken!

Note: To confirm the jailbreak was successful a (temporary) red FC logo will appear in place of the Settings icon - as shown below.

I've just tried rebooting mine several times and it seems the FC logo just refuses to disappear. If you really want to get rid of it then SSH into your ATV and browse to:-

Code:
/User/Media/Photos

And then either delete or rename

Code:
spicon.png

Then restart your ATV.
