I am thinking about buying an Apple TV and need to know a few things - I hope you guys can help me. I do know a bit about computer hardware, but when it comes to audio I am a total noob.

First the hardware I already got:
24'' LG Computer Screen (from my gaming PC) with hdmi and dvi in and a 3.5 headphone jack out (never used that one)
My dads old B&O Soundsystem (about 30 years old ^^) - it got the stereo in (the red and white cable) and I got a kit to get it to headphone jack
Macbook Pro late 2010
Macbook Pro early 2011 (gf's)

What I want to do with the setup:
I thought I connect the ATV via hdmi to the LG and the B&O to the headphone jack. In my fantasy I would/could use the display for work, stream movies (Airplay Mirroring and AirParrot for the 2010) and listen to music from the Sound System.

So before I buy the ATV I wanted to ask:
1. Is there a flaw in my idea - which part could make problems?
2. How about Airplay Mirroring of HD movies - does it work or is the lag noticeable?

Thanks for your help!

The apple tv has 1 way to send out video and 2 ways to send out audio. It can send audio and video through the HDMI or it can send video out through HDMI with audio coming out from the digital optical out.
I dont think your monitor has a 3.5 mm out. So your audio system would need at least a digital optical input to get the sound from the apple tv to the stereo receiver.

Edit::: if your monitor has a 3.5 mm and you have a 3.5 mm to component (red/white) then it should work but the quality won't be the best. You should be able to use all the function of the apple tv as long as you have an internet connection and a computer with iTunes.
