ATV and External HDD

I just got an ATV and I need to plug my usb drive into it for wifi access. I've searched on here and didn't find alot. All i could find was that you had to hack the ATV to use an external hard drive.

I don't want to hack it but will if I have to. Can anyone give some more info?

It cannot be done without hacking it. The USB port is off by default.
Hacking it is a painless though, here are a few links, google around for more.
