This is puzzling and can't find exactly the same problem after searching the forms...

ATV returns error message, "Internet connection failed, your ATV is connected to 'bluedogz time capsule' but cannot connect to the Internet."

The irritating thing is, it worked perfectly out of the box, after a power outage it quit. I have reset modem, TC, and ATV.

Oh, by the way, MB connects to internet fine on same network, so connectivity would not seem to be a root issue.

Any suggestions here? Hardwiring is not currently an option.

Maybe try to forget the network and then re add it in?

Whooleytoo: No, ATV does not appear anywhere, not as a device in iTunes or otherwise.

jmcgeejr: Seems like a plausible path, but I don't know how to do this in the ATV interface. Any guidance there? Also, the ATV does join the network, but then says it cannot connect to the internet; however, even though it has "joined the network" the MB can't see it, nor can the ATV see the MB.

Does it have a valid IP address & router address? If it has, can you ping it from your Mac? If not, is it setup via DHCP or manually?

--- 169.254.74.238 ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100.0% packet loss

Set up via DHCP. I am not quite savvy enough to set up the ATV manually, although I'll try anything once.

Look at the network settings in AppleTV, they should be something like:

IP address: 192.168.1.10 (the last "10" will vary).
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Router address: 192.168.1.1 (the last "1" may vary)
DNS address: 192.168.1.1 (or could be another value)

If these look very different, it may be that DHCP isn't working. You can try setting it up manually, it's quite easy. Just look at the network settings on your Mac, and enter the same values for subnet mask, router address and DNS address on your AppleTV, just change the last part of the IP address to a new value (say, try a number between 100 and 200).

If you need a different DNS address, you could try: 8.8.8.8 (easy to remember) or 208.67.222.222.

Hope that works for you!

Cant stream from iTunes, but can get on the web

Hi, this thread content looked like it could be relevant for an issue i have just got

I have had no issues with my ATV1's and ATV2 for ages. Then I just got a Netgear 150 wireless router as part of a home fibreoptic broadband upgrade

Since then, issues with the 2 older Apple TV boxes (hard drive ones) and 1 newer Apple TV box (streaming one) with streaming films from the iMac.

On the older Apple TV boxes I can connect to the NetGear home wireless, can see all films on Mac, can select them to play, get choice of Resume Play or Start from Beginning. When I choose either option it puts the time bar across the bottom, starts on 0.00 as you would expect but the duration time at the end is also 0.00. Then the screen goes blank and nothin happens at all. Films stored locally play fine

YouTube plays fine, so I can get on the web from the old apple TV boxes

With the newer Apple TV box I can also connect to My Library, select a film, choose resume or start from beginning. If I press RESUME then the picture appears from where it last played but then the spinning wheel spins and spins and nothing plays even after 20 minutes.

YouTube connects, I can select a clip from most featured or most popular, then the timer bar appears at the bottom. It takes a few minutes but does play

It all worked fine with the previous Router. Also a netgear, but model

Channel is set to Auto, as the old one was

Any ideas??

Cheers ...
