ATV does not recognize Internet free wireless network setup in iMac

Hi

I bought an apple tv and I don't have Internet yet but I thought I could still link it to my mac.

I did some search on the forums and I learnt that you can create a wireless network and make apple tv connect to it.

I created the wireless network and my iPhone connected to it but apple tv won't recognize it. I tried typing it manually, restarting atv, resetting to factory settings all with no avail.

Any idea how I can get around it?

I even called apple and spent 40 minutes on the phone and they were hopeless.

Is it an ad-hoc network (computer to computer) or do you have a base station. If it's ad-hoc, I wouldn't be surprised that it doesn't work.

Yes it's ad hoc computer to computer. It's works just fine for the iPhone, I can remote control itunes using the iPhone

Thanks for that, it is precisely what I have done but Atv just doesn't recognize a comp to comp adhoc wireless network.

Buy a Router.

Apple, Linksys, D-Link are good.
