Hi all,

I am considering purchasing an ATV unit and had questions regarding the movies available to buy on iTunes.

A majority of the movies on iTunes are in SD, but say "Also available in HD on iPad and Apple TV"

So here's my question: Once I purchase the ATV unit, can I buy movies in HD format, store them on my MBP, and watch them in HD format, AWAY from my ATV unit, like on an airplane or in a hotel or something?

Please let me know if this is possible.

Forgive my noob ?'s...this stuff just drives me crazy sometimes!

I'm almost positive that if iTunes only says "Available in HD on Apple TV and iPad," then that particular movie is only available to rent. If the movie is for SALE in HD, then it will list the option to buy right there, and will not say the above quoted line.

Yeah.. I just bought the newest Harry Potter movie on DVD and I cant see a darn thing... so i thought an iTunes movie would have better pic quality.

I really dont understand why Mac doesn't offer HD movies for sale on ALL newer movies

It all has to do with licensing agreements with the studios. Trust me, Apple would love to have all movies in HD format for purchase.

The studios hold back many movies because they are convinced that they will make more money on DVD and Bluray sales.
