Hello,
i do have a problem with my ATV and MacMini.
If I try to create a new folder structure in xbmc (smb) I can see and enter the "normal" MacMini HDD without any problems.
But my movies are on a external HDD (NTFS). I can see this HDD on ATV as well but I can not open this HDD to go to the movie folder.
The external HDD is shared on MACMini.
Do you ever heard about this problem?
Any solution?

Thanks in advance

I think its the NTFS format thats causing issues. I re-formatted my external connected to my Mini to whatever the mac format is (having a brain fart right this moment and cant remember).

I bet you got your sharing setting messed up. You don't need to format your drive to HFS, you can still share it as NTFS using samba.

Here's what you do:

Go to Preferences
Click on Sharing
Click on File Sharing on the left-hand side
Click the Options button
Uncheck “Share files and folders using AFP”
Check “Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)”
Click the Done button.

That should do the trick

Thanks for all your replys.
I did exactly what you mentioned above.
Same result, not possible to see the files :(

Reboot everything after the setting, the AppleTV, the Computer and the router

In what format are your movies? are those iTunes movies?
when you say "not possible to see the files", what exactly is the problem? do you get an error?

Hi,
I rebooted and its still the same situartion. I can see in ATV my external HDD but if I click on it to see the folders I receive the following message
" invalid argument ".

My movies do have different formats: divx, avi mkv (no iTunes movies).
For this reason I use xbmc.

Thanks for your support

You may want to try the XMBC forums, it seen to be a specific issue with xbmc, i don't believe had nothing to do with your setup, the way you have it should work, maybe try deinstalling and reinstalling xbmc?
