Hi,

I'm not new to media streamers, but want to know what is the quickest way to convert a downloaded file to stream in itunes to play on the new Apple TV 3. Is there an automatic file converting feature in iTunes I don't know about?
My goal is to download a 1080p file(or any movie file of choice), download subtitles of choice, english, chinese, vietnamese..etc, upload it to itunes and start watching in 1080p quality without mirroring any apps through iPad 2. I can figure out how to convert and embed subtitles, but it takes an hr or 2. anyone have a better process doing it quicker? I'm also looking into jailbreaking to use XMBC or PLEX? still researching these. maybe i can download movies and subittles, put it in the shared folders for XMBC and watch?? can anyone share links or info that can help w/ what i want?

Thanks!

ATV3 can't be jailbreak yet, so PLex and XBMC is out of the question for now.

You can use Handbreak on your computer to convert all you content into iTune compatible media, there are several thread on here on how to make mp4 containers that include the subtitles, quick google search will give you ton of step by step too.

However, note that those conversion will take some time no matter what, there isn't really a "quick" way around if you want to use iTunes.

ok thanks! yea, i was just looking for something quick and dirty. I know the long time conversion process w/ the embedded subs.

If you already have .mp4 files muxing .srt files to add subtitles for additional languages is very easy. Just open file (I suggest Subler), drag the .srt into the window, save it (should take less than 5 seconds).

If it is a mkv file (but contains H.264 and AAC audio) then you only have to change the container and there is no need to re-encode. If it already has the subtitles embedded, just use the mux (soft) option. Remuxing to a new container shouldn't take very long (10 minutes for an average size video file).
