ATV not playing audio no videos

My first gen atv is playing audio no video on tvshows that are encoded in .x264. Ever since the TV release group changed the format I am not able to play these files rather they sync to the ATV, or stream from MAC or PC using home sharing, or using Air Play the file starts to play and then freezes the ATV. Has any one else had this problem?
