Looking for advice as to whether the ATV1 (40GB or 160GB) is capable of outputting video via HDMI as well as outputting audio via composite red, white connectors at the same time?

Looking to use the HDMI for video to the TV and outputting the sound to set a wireless headphones.
I can't input the video and audio to my TV and output the sound as my TV doesn't support audio out via composite on the HDMI input. No idea why but it just won't.

Thanks

Mine outputs all 3 (HDMI, optical, analogue), both when running the original OS and when running Linux/Crystalbuntu.

I had mine connected via HDMI to my Yamaha receiver, and when watching video the sound went via the HDMI. If I was just using Airplay, I used the analogue input on the receiver, so I didn't need to have the TV on wasting electric.

I used HDMI for video and audio for my ATV1 and used the analog audio outputs for Zone 2 on my receiver (most receivers won't route digital audio to other zones). The fact that ATV2 and 3 don't have analog out is their biggest drawback, in my opinion. I had to get an external TOSLINK to Analog converter when I got my ATV3.

So, yes, the analog audio outputs are active along with the HDMI output on the ATV1
