(atv1) blinking apple logo

I bought a used ATV gen. 1 which behaves strangely. There's the Apple logo appearing on screen with a few seconds interval, so I can hardly navigate through the menu. Doing a factory restore doesn't help. Anyone knows what to do?

I had this same issue. Do another complete factory restore but first Unplug it and let it cool down completely. Restore it and then download the updates.

If that doesn't work you may need to pull the drive and test it with Disk Utility.

In my own past, the remedy for this problem is either:

1. pull the drive, hook it up to something (external case) you can plug into the Mac and "repair permissions" and/or "repair disk" via disk utility, OR
2. the drive is dead and you'll need to replace it (see some great (larger) options on Ebay).

Obviously, you try #1 before #2.
