ATV2 and XBMC - NAS Shares.

Hello everyone,

I've been floating around these forums and Google trying to find a solution to my problem, and I can't seem to find one that will work for me.

Previously, I've used XBMC on various formats, and it all seemed to work well with my NAS drive.

I'm using a D-Link 323 NAS, and a jailbroken ATV2 with XBMC.

I'm unable to find or add any of my media directories from the NAS.

I've been to UPNP, and nothing shows up.

I've gone to SAMBA and I get the following error: "Error 2: share not available"

I believe I have both UPNP and Samba setup with my NAS. I can easily access all of the files through my Windows Laptop.

The NAS is connected directly to a router...

I'm not sure what the catch is here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK, anyways...

I've managed to find my NAS directory on the ATV2 with XBMC. However, when I try to open the directory it works for a while, and then I get "error connection refused".

Any ideas?

I have the same NAS, the DNS-323. Here's a post I made a few weeks back to someone else having issues with ATV2, XBMC, and NAS playing nice.

In my case, the static IP on my ATV2 and NAS has proven to be useful multiple times over the past while. My devices are always located on the network exactly where they're supposed to be, and since making this setup, I haven't once had a connection issue.

It appears to work through a wireless connection, but not through a wired connection. I can see everything wirelessly.

Is that strange? I'd like to be wired to have the security of a quicker network.

Unfortunately I don't have my ATV2 hardwired via ethernet -- the devices are in opposite corners of the house. I cannot help you there, other than too say that no matter whether your connecting via wireless or a hardwired connection, the NAS should still have the same same static IP address no matter what.

This means that the <path> syntax in sources.xml should be able to use

<path>smb://username:password@serverip/path/</path>

for your wired connection too. If you're still having issues, please check again to ensure you've got the correct syntax.

Did you assign a static IP to the NAS in the DNS-323 setup and via your router? In my case I have an AEBS. Using AirPort utility, I've manually changed the DHCP Reservations settings to ensure the NAS and ATV2 are locked to my assigned IP addresses using each device's unique MAC address.
