ATV2 for Music with No TV Video

Why not just plug your HDMI cable into your receiver and once you select what music you want playing you can just turn off your TV? Or you could just get a Airport Express Base Station with AirTunes and use iTunes to control your audio...
This is for a low end application and the use of a receiver is not necessary. Thus the idea to play music through the TV and turn off the TV's video is satisfactory. I'm looking to see if anyone here is doing something similar and see what TV brand they use. I'll look into the Base Station as well. Thanks for the idea.
If you are just going to use it for music then I'd just get an Airport Express, it is the same price but it will also increase your WiFi range. However, if you see yourself using video in the future then get the Apple TV.
We'll stream iTunes movies and music to the TV, plus use Netflix. I just want to be able to turn off the TV video while the music is playing and wondered if anyone does the same and if so what TV brand they use. Use of the ATV2 for this is already decided. If no one does it this way, then I'll seek input for a low cost A/V receiver with HDMI that works well with the ATV2.
I've never heard of a TV doing what you are asking, if I understand you correctly? You just want to use the TV's built in speakers but not the screen? Or are you trying to go HDMI into the TV, the out of the TV's analog outputs without turning the TV on?
I have a Sony KDL32v5500 (about two years old) which allows you to turn off the screen. I used to use this function when I first started streaming music to the living room *I didn't have my amp at that point, so I would play the music through the TV's speakers but turn off the screen. From what I can gather that's the same thing as the OP wants to do.
