ATV2 IR remote

Is it normal that I have to have my remote pointed directly face on with my ATV, more then 30 degrees of centre line my apple tv will not respond to the remote. When I first started using macs 2 years ago, I had 3 macs in the same room and would have to duck there IR sensors (this was before I knew how to disable IR) .

Depending what side of the couch I sit on I have to move my atv or else the remote will not work.

Yeah you need to face the sensor right at the device, turning the remote away from the Apple TV will surely not have it respond. Even if it's 30 degrees to right or left.

that is a little disappointing, I just tested my mac mini again and I can get it to responds at 90 degrees 180 degrees. I had to try and find a dead zone in the room where my mac mini would not respond.

my apple tv is in the middle of my tv shelf and have to move my apple TV depending on which side of the couch I sit on.

It is not the remote as I have trouble shooted 2 remotes with my ATV 2 and my mac mini.

Do you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad? They work even better as a remote, don't have to aim them at all.

I use my iphone 4, but I don't let my kids use it. The only time I really use the iphone is when I need a keyboard, otherwise I prefer a remote.

I'm thinking the IR receiver is not defective, I think it must be getting shielded too much with the enclosure of the ATV 2. Might need to drill a hole where the sensor is
