Hi everyone ... quick question. I have an ATV2 and am sharing content off of my iMac via wireless network. In the past this has worked pretty well, though occasionally it would suddenly quit playing and tell me to turn on home sharing. After the last update, this has happened much more frequently. I can get it to start working again, but only if I either a) quit iTunes and restart or b) restart the ATV. I also notice after the update that my TV shows are in a random order (not alphabetical) even when sorted by name.

Does anyone have any ideas about whether the issue is with my ATV or somehow my network? I did reset the ATV to factory settings and the issues still persisted.

Sleep

Is it possible your computer with itunes is going to sleep? I've found closing the lid on my MBP breaks the home sharing connection.

I was having is problem with 2 wired appletv's and it was driving me nuts.

My solution...sucks but it worked. First reboot the router and everything else. Start with a clean slate so to speak.

Then make sure the computer running iTunes never goes to sleep. Then make sure the appletv never goes to sleep either.

That solved it but now everything is always on. Shrug

Also the tv show sorting is a bug with the latest version of iTunes. It's happening to all of us

By any chance is your wireless network "closed" (meaning the SSID is not broadcasted)? I had mine like this and the AppleTVs kept losing connection to Home Sharing. As soon as I unhid the SSID, the problem went away.

Usually just restarting iTunes works for me.

Thanks everyone. I'll try rebooting the router and take a look at the "sleeping" pattern. I was not having this issue near as frequently before the last update though it would happen every once in a while. As I said, I can either restart iTunes or the ATV to get it to re-recognize the sharing.

I have not experienced the home sharing disconnect recently. However, I do experience periodic network connectivity issues. I wish I knew what exacerbates the home sharing problem. Do you have the most up to date firmware and iTunes version?
