hi,

it was hard to describe my question in the subject line, but hopefully some of you can help me out.

i'm contemplating an ATV, but envision wanting to use it for two things that might (i hope not) be a conflict:

- when playing movies or streaming TV shows, i want to be able to output audio via the HDMI cable to my home theater system, but when using itunes, i want to feed the optical out to an external A/D converter to send the audio to my high end 2 channel audio system.

is this possible or do i have to play with the setting each time i switch between these two "tasks"?

thanks for any thoughts and experiences.

derek

Both the HDMI and the optical port output audio simultaneously. So yes you would be able to do what you want to do.

This was the main reason I got an ATV2. I have a mini in the same system, but you have to pull it up on the screen to change audio outputs. With the ATV2, I have it feeding a DAC (optical) and my receiver (HDMI) and it works exactly the way I wanted.
