ATV2 or No ATV2?

Should I get an ATV2 or not? I've currently got my MacPro hooked up to my HT using a miniDP to HDMI cable, and the optical out to the receiver. This works great for music, but I run into HDMI handshake problems at times. When it works it's great for iPhoto and playing ripped DVDs.

I'd like to be able to use AirPlay mirroring from my iPhone 4s so I need a ATV2 for that.

Is there a way to show photos on the ATV2 without iPhoto '11? Also is there a way to play ripped DVDs on the ATV2?

If I can replace the features I use the MP for I'd spring for an ATV2 in a heartbeat. I'm thinking about doing it just for AirPlay mirroring!

Yup, the ATV will do pretty much everything you asked about. Do it!

you need to encode your ripped DVD's and dump them into iTunes.

The ATV 2 is the best way to play all of your iTunes content on your TV and as a bonus it has several streaming Apps built in (Netflix, YouTube etc...).

Plus if you are into it you can purchase or rent movies and TV shows from Apple to play on the ATV 2.

There are also several other abilities available if you HB the ATV 2.

For $100 it's worth it for the AirPlay. Pull that trigger, you'll be happy you did.

I'm getting an Apple TV2 specifically for wireless mirroring for my iPad 2 and future iPhone 4S. I love that feature.

apple should have released the apple tv 3 now

with the iphone 4s shooting 1080p video and also being on sprint , new customers

a new apple tv would have been great right now

That's exactly what I was thinking. I am so close to buying ATV, but I kind of want to hold out. I'd hate to get ATV and then a month later, ATV3 comes out.

Bestbuy tried to charge me $104.99, so I asked them to check their site. Ended up getting it for $97.99.

It was a breeze to install, AirPlay mirroring is awesome! So far so good well worth a hundred bucks!

Can anyone comment on the difference between 802.11g vs. 802.11n with the atv2?

I was streaming a few things and thought it took longer than it should and I thought the wifi might have been the bottleneck.

What do u mean by HB the atv 2?

Sorry HB is Handbrake. Do you have a large DVD collection, if so you can rip them and use Handbrake to encode them for playback on the ATV
