So, the more advanced, space saving spec. of H264 that ATV3 supports... How much space can you save by encoding for it? (both DVD's and HD films)

There really is no easy answer, it will vary from source to source. The higher level of advanced opts in the atv 3 preset will typically produce a smaller file at the same visual quality as the atv 2 and especially the atv 1 preset. However on HD like 1080p that will be offset by the preset not scaling down to 720p as it does in the atv 1 preset.

Try a few short tests using the exact same source with each preset ... that will give you an idea. DVD's will have a greater savings than 1080p (due to the scaling mentioned above).

For DVDs I use "High Profile". Would the ATV3 preset be better? (I'm not worried about file size).

Probably not. the advanced opts in the atv 3 preset I pretty much took right from hi profile. atv3 and hi profile will do pretty much the exact same thing on a dvd, besides the decombing which is decomb fast for atv 3 so its a bit faster to encode.

Great. Thanks

Has anyone compared the output of a dvd or 720p file (same bitrate) for ATV1/2/3 Handbrake presets respectively?
