I have just noticed that the Australian price for the iMac has been adjusted taking into account the rise in the AUD against the USD.
For a 2.93 with a 1 TB HDD, 3 year applecare, and 4 GB RAM which was A$3,157.01, is now A$2,957.01, a $200 drop! Good news for Aussie buyers.

This is the email I sent to Steve Jobs about the disparity on the 21/10/2010

Dear Mr Jobs,

My name is **** ****** and I am from Australia. I am shortly going to purchase an BTO iMac but I have noticed something which I wish to have explained to me before I make the purchase.

Usually the Australian dollar is worth approximately 70 US cents, however recently the AUD has been almost at parity with the USD. There has been no adjustment to the Australian price of the iMac to reflect the change. We here in Australia have been disadvantaged by these turn of events.

I would respectfully request an answer to this burning question. This has been a big discussion point here in Australia and I have noticed that many, many people have put off their purchase of your fantastic products because of this.

I look forward to your reply and I hope that you are able to find the time in your obviously busy schedule to help me with this inquiry.

With the greatest respect,

***** ******

I'm not suggesting my particular email was the catalyst for the change but it may have been one of many that may have instigated it!

I'm glad apple finally addressed this but it came a month two late for me as i purchased a mac mini for a media center im really happy with it but would have loved to saved a bit of cash, hopefully when i update my imac in a year or so hopefully prices drop a bit more
It has been this way for way to long people from au nz and Europe paying way to much for apple products......

Europe is even more expensive

Yes, People from Australia, New- Zealand or Europe are and will always be disadvantaged when looking at the US prices.

For example my purchase:

Dutch price:

iMac 2.93Ghz i7 27" 4GB RAM + 1TB Hard Drive. I bought this with only a processor update and I updated some other things with after market goods.

2179,- in Holland. <-- $3103.77

US Price:

iMac 2.93Ghz i7 27" 4GB RAM + 1TB Hard Drive.

$2199 <-- €1543,81

As you can see the price difference is 3103.77 - 2199 = 904 dollars (!)

For the amount of 2199 US Dollars you can buy the base 21.5" 3.2Ghz i3 model

Absolutely unbelievable.

Great news in deed TechHead! Have you purchased your imac yet? You can still save money off the reduced price
I walked into MYER's today and they have made the price adjustment as well. I never anticipated buying an imac from MYER's, however I got them to drop the price of the i7 lower then the educational discount (A$2490) and negotiated applecare down to A$190. Not content, I got them to then make it a clean A$2650! :) Also being a MyerOne member (It's free to join), I'll get approx $50 back in vouchers (will put this towards the trackpad).

To be fair, I buy a fair few things from European companies and they charge me a premium as well. :p Granted it's usually clothes not expensive electronics.

No, I haven't bought mine yet! I am going to wait until after the next refresh which will hopefully be in March/April next year. I have a wish list (of sorts) that I hope will be included in the next version. Of course I do not think they'll all will be answered and I'm not holding my breath.
