Hi,

Is there anyway to get iPhone X with ios 12 to make a sound alert when I get an email from a specific email address or sender?

I tried the VIP mode in airmail but it doesn't make a noise when a favorite email sender sends an email.

In the stock email app. Having a contact in VIP will make a sound of your choosing when you receive a email.

Settings >mail>notifications (sounds banners badges>VIP Banners sounds badges>pick a sound.

I tried this but could not get it to make the specific sound I chose in VIP mode.

For VIP mode I want a loud, sustained sound so i chose "Presto"

Normal mail is "Chord" sound which is quieter.

It keeps playng "Chord" when i get VIP mail.

Do you also have sound notification enabled for regular mail as well, not just VIP? Are you sure you added the sender to the VIP list and Mail identifies the new message that comes in as such?

Off topic because it doesn't help with your email issue, but I just recently read about a pretty intense feature in iOS called Emergency Bypass -- it lets you specify that calls or texts from a specific contact will always make a sound, even if your phone is otherwise silence, on Do Not Disturb, etc.

Yes. i think it is because gmail is fetch on apple ios app so the sound only occurs when i open up mail!!!

i have airmail and it seems to be push. emails come quick.

i am trying google mail app but cannot see any options for vip notifications.

This is all with Apple's iOS "built-in" Mail app basically.

I am using Apple Mail, Airmail and Google mail apps.

Nothing seems to work reliably.

Is there a way to set apple mail to push?

Gmail doesn't really support push in iOS. Some third party apps do it using some other methods like storing your credentials and so forth, but the Mail app doesn't do something like that and without Gmail offering it can only do fetch basically.

You can set up an alert a different way.

If your cell provider has an email to text feature (like Verizon's "yournumber"@vtext.com) you could set up a filter at Gmail to forward the person's email to that text email address. Then set up the notification sound accordingly.

Alternately, you could add another, "dummy" email account with a louder sound and have Gmail forward the specific person's email to that address.

I see that Presto is a ringtone. Try using a alert tone from the alert tone list. I use the alert tone Bloom.

I tried different ringtones but that didn't work. I tried Presto as it is longer.
