Audio Gone in Mini

When I started my Intel Mini this morning, the speaker icon in the taskbar was gone, although there is a space for it left blank.

The info screen also dispalys "no built-in audio".

I'm afraid this is a hardware problem, but I wanted to ask for some help first.

2009 Mini? I've had similar problems with audio disappearing completely like that as well but I believe I tracked it down to crashing in VLC (my own fault).

Does the audio return after a reboot?

By the way, what app puts in the weather info on your menu bar?

I recommend resetting the PRAM and SMC.
