Hello there!

I just bought a new Mac Pro and did a clean install of all my apps. Everything seems to be working fine except one thing: my audio interface's console.

I'm using an Audiofire 4 interface, which has little physical controls on it. I've been using its console software on my iMac and on my MacBook Pro to control it. Last night I installed the software from the CD on the Mac Pro and it won't work!

I launch the application from my home folder on my boot disk (SSD). I also tried installing it on the data HDD and still no luck: when I try to launch it it closes immediately. All my macs are on the same version of SN so that shouldn't be the problem.

Anyone has a few ideas? I use my computer a lot for music so this has to work or I may have to return to the iMac...

Thanks in advance!

goMac: Of course I contacted support, approximately 20 hours ago. Waiting for an answer from them but still hoping to resolve it before they come back to me (if they do).

juice: I understand your sarcasm but I WOULD pay that friggin' dollar if I could to solve that problem! I should be doing music right now...

Do they have newer drivers to grab off their site?

goMac: I tried the version that came with the CD (and that still works on my iMac and MacBook Pro) and both versions that are distributed from their website. They all have the same problem.

djjclark: I don't think so as I don't recall installing Rosetta on my other macs. And usually software that needs Rosetta asks for it, no?

Is it an incompatibility with a 64 bit kernel ? Did you try to boot in 32 bit mode to test ?

Ooooo nice one. This seems the most likely.

Ok, I repaired permissions and booted in 32-bit mode. No luck, the software still won't launch.

I erased it and reinstalled it again.

Still no luck.

Grrrr...

Thanks for the guess though!

Sounds like driver/OS incompatibility.

New Mac Pro has 10.6.6?

Old iMac has older OS?

I've had a few issues with a few peripherals not working with newer versions of Snow Leopard.

Also, is it FW400? There are still issues with FW400 devices and Snow Leopard. For some reason my FW400 Burner won't play with my new Mac Pro works fine elsewhere on my macbook pro.

diazj3: No, I didn't install Rosetta. The app is universal and works on both my iMac and Macbook Pro, which don't have Rosetta installed either.

DeeEss: All my macs are running 10.6.6... So you think it could be FW400 VS my Mac Pro? I'm using a FW400 to FW800 cable. Works on my other macs...

I'm in contact with technical support from Echo and they ask one new small question every 24 hours to see if I tried reinstalling etc...

If this doesn't work at all I MAY have to return the Mac Pro and keep using the iMac for a while....

Yes I think it is the FW400 issue. My FW400 Burner won't work on my new Mac Pro running 10.6

Have a google about it there have been loads of people with the same issue.

Interesting but a quick look wasn't enough for me to find many threads about this. Got any links? I could forward them to Echo.

Besides my audio interface IS working; my problem is with the console software which is supposed to control it... Don't know if FW400 is to blame in this case.

Yeah I will find some links for you. I seem to remember the problem stopped if you unplugged FW800 drives. DO you hve any?

I will have a look now for some links for you

Thanks a lot DeeEss. I went through a few of the threads and found that they do not have the same problem as I have. My interface IS working, it is the software that isn't.

But why only on the Mac Pro??

Ah, you're welcome. I'm glad I could help.

yeah these things are frustrating as hell. Well good luck with it either way.

:)

Update: this morning I installed the Audiofire Console successfully on my Windows partition (on another hard drive). I then came back to OSX (on my SSD) and this time the app, instead of immediately opening and closing, beachballed the whole system. The console gave me this:

Any idea?

Did you delete all the supporting files when you re-installed. App support, .plists etc?

I only deleted the console itself, which seems to be self-contained. Anywhere else I should look?

Repairing your permissions in Disk Utility on all your drives might do it.

"Dubious permissions on file (skipping): "

Try get in the habit of repairing your permissions when ever you install something as it often causes issues.

Maybe get info in the .app as well and see if there is a toggle box for "Open in 32-bit mode".

You are sure you are running 32-bit kernel? Open a terminal and type:
uname -a

Use the commands to toggle the kernel modes.

sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64
sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386
