Can anyone tell me why Audio line-in never work wih external mic of any kind. I tested the same Mic with Macbook, eMac, PowerMac. no single sound input detected.... it sacks..........:confused: :confused: :mad: :mad:

Is it a powered mic? That's the only way you're going to get much of a signal.

A powered mic? are you talking USB external mic or can you be more specific please?

The audio line-in requires some sort of amplified source...great if you have a tape player or something like that can be set for line-level output, but you need some sort of preamp to set the microphone signal up to a level that the line-in can read...the iMic is a popular tool for folks with unpowered mics.

Use an iMic through USB. The audio-in port on recent Macs doesn't work with standard PC mics. I forget the technical explanation (someone else care to explain?).
