Audio Loudness (and line noise) Questions - iMac (SOLVED)

Ignore my original post.

Problem seems to be with the Edirol UA-20 (although the output from the iMac is still not as loud as a standard line output from a CD player) . Its output is really quiet (and there is some interference)... therefore I have to crank it up... and this results in amplifying any background noise/interference.

Guess I'll have to get a new audio/midi interface.
