Audio Problem in Converted AVI

I used VisualHub to convert an AVI file to MP4 so that I can watch it on my Apple TV (I used the Apple TV setting).

The avi file works great. Unfortunately, the sound is off by a second or two once converted to MP4.

Any idea why this is happening or how I can overcome this?

how far are you sitting from the TV ?

no seriously, this happens sometimes for me too. Is the sound coming before or after the correct frame?

hopefully someone else can help in the immediate future, I've got to be away for a while.

I didn't even bother syncing it to the Apple TV. I just scanned through it on my Mac and noticed the audio issue. Weird that the AVI plays fine but not the MP4. It's not like I'm ripping an encrypted DVD and converted it to MP4. This is an AVI. Weird.

What type of Mac are you on?

On my PB 1.67 I usually don't have this problem, though the same files sometimes have the lag on my Ti Book and other G4 towers. I use iSquint and max out the settings, though I don't use H.264. Again, is it the sound or the video that is lagging to make them not in sync?

I'm doing this on an iMac - aluminum 2.0 GHz.

The audio is slightly ahead of the video by about a second - maybe a second and a half.

I did have H.264 Encoding selected. Maybe I will try it without it. I also have a MacBook Pro. I'll try it on there to see if it makes a difference.

I should note that I've tried converting other AVI files to great success without any audio problems.

i have the same problem from time to time. its not lag from the computer...it actually happens in the encoding. Ive used Handbrake and elgato 264, and every once in a blue moon i get the same problem. hope someone here has some idea.

When I convert avi's to mp4 using quicktime pro and the apple TV settings, my audio is slightly out (just noticable) at the bigining of the movie and gets worse the longer the movie goes for.
The sound is can be delayed by upto 5 seconds, it can be very frustrating.

A few questions, any ideas on how to fix this ?
Other options for converting avi's to mp4 ? that work well.
Has anyone used other settings in quicktime that work ?

I have also noticed the same problem that you guys are facing. The program I found that works is the MPEG Streamclip found under video in the Apple downloads section. You can do all custimaztions with this. Not as fast as I want but hey, I get my movies the right way.

Sounds as if the audio frequency is wrong, so the audio and video diverge over time.
