I have used a Fos Power 3.5 mm to Toslink cable with my 2015 iMac. I tried to use this cable on the new Mac Studio and it does not stay in with it only being recognized as a headphone with no sound.

I used HDMI to my Yamaha receiver and it works but requires an extra phantom display running. The sound also goes off when I put the screen to sleep.

I attempted to use the USB-C to 3.5mm jack with the Fospower cable and it didn’t recognize anything.

Is there any cable I can buy that will enable good audio without a video connection coming over? Has anyone else been able to use the 3.5mm Jack on the Mac Studio to get the audio to work?

Been using it since day one. The 3.5mm port on the Studio is not optical/mini-toslink though, I believe Apple dropped that some time ago.

You are trying to use an optical (Toslink) cable. It is not an optical output. Use a regular audio cable with a 3.5mm stereo plug for analog audio out.

If you want digital audio to your Yamaha you will need a USB to Toslink or Digital Coax converter. Something like this:

Thanks! It's weird my old iMac supported optical from 3.5mm with the linked cable.

I'm guessing the Mac Studio abandoned this capability. I think I'm going to lean towards the optical. I actually have a Scarlett Solo. I just tried to use RCA cables through the line outs to my Yamaha RX-V373 with the connecting to my Mac Studio via USB, but I don't know if there is an IN. It's just silent.
