I just want to see the individual chapters of audiobooks in iTunes. Why is this such a puzzle?

I'm not trying to create an audiobook file, or divide up a large file into chapters, import from CD, or anything like that. I'm simply wondering how to get the individual chapters of my audiobooks (purchased from the iTunes store) to show up in iTunes the way they do when I play the audiobook on my iPhone?

Any help in this regard would be awesome.

Cheers

Currently iTunes does not seem to have this functionality (which is driving me completely mad when trying to pick up playback of very large audiobooks (10h+) from where I left of on my iPod or iPhone)

Maybe someone here can enlighten us about an add-on / script or alternative player that uses the iTunes library?

This is awkward, but maybe it'll help:

While an audiobook is playing, you can press Command-Shift-RightArrow to go to the next chapter (and Left Arrow for previous chapter). At least, I think it's going by chapter.

Half the time the top center window will show the chapter title (it alternates with the track name, I think).

click on album artwork of playing track

Hi there,

Just noticed, that there is one way (that I know of) to access chapters in itunes 11:

You click on the little album artwork thumbnail left of the timebar (center-top of itunes window). Click on that thumbnail (of the playing track) and you get the full-size album artwork in a separate window.
Here, to the right of the play-controls, you can click on a little icon that shows all the chapters!!!

hope that helps.
John

This works!!! Thanks, John!
(It's still not easy to find a place in a chapter, but at least you can go straight to the chapter!)

Resurrecting this thread ... I cannot seem to access the chapters of audiobooks in iTunes 11.1.3.8 anymore. When using jad1983's method as described in the previous posts, all I get is the "up next" list. Am I missing something?

I really don't know what Apple is thinking. First they make the chapters inaccessible in the Music app in iOS 7, and now apparently in iTunes as well? Seems like they want to drive audiobook users away.

When you play an audio book in iTunes 11.3, a Chapters menu appears to the right of the Window menu.

It's not a great UX decision on Apple's behalf, but I guess they don't expect many people to listen to audiobooks from their computers? I was reading this thread because I couldn't figure it out at first.

Yosemite

I'm on Yosemite Developer Preview 8 and iTunes 12.0.0.117 so I could only use a combination of the two solutions provided above, meaning:

1. Click the thumbnail to get the miniplayer.

2. Press Cmd+Shift+left or right arrow keys

Can't find list of chapters or do this in the main full itunes interface.

Thanks to those who helped with the solutions.

11.2.2.3 shows a "chapters' menu if you are showing the menu at top (file/edit and so forth)

I found a way: There is in fact a drop down menu called Chapters. It's at the top, between Window and Help.
It's not the easiest way to browse, but at least it exists.
