Apologies If this has already been stated.

I bought some air pod pros gen 2 yesterday to replace my Sony WF1000-xm4. Was on the fence about returning until I tried the mimi app to measure hearing loss. I have tinnitus and after using mimi realised I also have slight hearing loss in one ear.

I used the audiogram produced on my AirPods, and omg the difference is quite simply amazing.
I know it might sound dramatic, but I could have cried listening to Muse , I can now hear things I didn't even know existed in the songs, I can understand the words. It's night and day. Just a PSA if anyone has yet to do this, it really improves the audio experience.

Sorry I should have explained , you can download an app called mimi , it’s a hearing test program for free. You complete a hearing test , then save the audio gram , it’d basically a map of the frequencies you can and can’t hear. As far as I know as I’m no expert , you can import this into accessibility settings and assign it to your AirPods , mine sound so much more spacious now and I can actually hear words I couldn’t before

If you need clearer instructions as I’m rushing as I’m at work, let me know and I’ll try and find some online 😊

How do you link your results in accessibility?

I wear hearing aids and adding in audiogram data makes a huge difference in sound quality on AirPod devices (for wearing without aids). For others out there, keep in mind that Mimi will not always work. I tried the Mimi app and it said it couldn't test my level of hearing loss. I guess that's not surprising considering my hearing is about 75-80 dB below baseline in some frequencies. If you have a hearing test done by medical professionals you can manually import the results using the Health app and use those results. The AirPods aren't perfect because they don't use compression (I don't think) to help compensate large hearing losses. But it's certainly better than nothing.

Oh my god what a vast improvement thanks for the infomation making the AirPods Pro so much better sounding. Having a moderate hearing loss in the right ear and damaged eardrum in the left eardrum this is what I needed to improve the sound clarity

Recently purchased the AirPod Pro 2. I was disappointed with the sound. They just need more bass. I currently have the Sony wf1000 xm4 and Soundcore Liberty 4 nc and are both very good. I wanted the convenience of the Apple ecosystem and some of great features of the AirPods. After digging and searching I came upon the use of the audiogram. Wow, what a improvement. I entered a few manual audiograms trying to tweak what I liked best. My question is there a way to delete the ones that I tried and did not like? Come on Apple. Why make it so difficult to personalize the sound? Give us an app that will allow the use of an EQ!!

For Apple, an EQ seems forever to be the same as battery life for Microsoft...

I'm old, but after performing the audiogram test and using corrections I found the audio on my AirPods too harsh on the high end. I guess after all these years I'm used to my mid frequency world.

It's definitely not properly accurate, and will likely only actually work for the severely compromised - like audio equipment reviewers 🤣

I haven't been since the pandemic especially since I started cutting over to using ANC TWEs far more than using my custom in-ears (which is, now I'm realising as I'm typing this, actually a really good impetus to have my ears tested again to see what effect that's had), but I had tri-or-so-yearly visits to the audiologist to get my ears remolded and I was always like 'well I might as well have a hearing test as well' each time.

And I know one ear is worse than the other both to to a perceptual difference and one that shows up in a hearing test, but not to the degree I have to start twiddling balance knobs. Mimi told me that I had zero loss in both ears and left/right tracked closer than I would expect.

The upshot here is that if you actually want your hearing tested to an objectively worthwhile level, go to a professional.

It would be nice if Mimi supported AirPods Max for creating the audiogram.
