Just FYI for anyone in the northern US or EU that's got clear skies, there's a good chance of an aurora tonight! Anyone in the colored part can see it overhead, anyone north of the green line can see it at the horizon!

Not strictly photography related, but seems like the kind of thing a bunch of photographers may appreciate. I know I'll try and get outside tonight, though the Denver area is supposed to be partly cloudy so not sure if I'll be able to see it.

We have a somewhat clear shot north from our house here in Denver or if its clear maybe will think of heading further east onto the plains a bit more. Very cool!

Should be clear here as well. For a midwesterner, I'm clueless. Does it potentially last all night, or is this more like an eclipse?
No. It doesn't. Just imagine that the Auroras are similar to short periods of wind gusts, or perhaps ocean waves. They can be very active for a few minutes, and then disappear. Some other times they reappear sometime later, but it is difficult to tell the activity's duration. In Alaska I look at the Auroras forecast offered by the Geophysical Institute at the University Of Alaska, UAF (posted above). Maybe the NOAA would have a forecast webpage for you to look at where you live (Tanagra, right?) ;)
