Hi. I'm using auto-brightness on all my iOS devices. Sometimes the brightness is not quite enough and I manually adjust it to give it a bit of gain. My question is, what happens to the auto-brightness behaviour after that? Is it stuck where I've manually adjusted it to or does it readjust to auto-brightness at the same level as when the option is first turned on?

Thanks.

Auto brightness will remember your minimum setting. In a dark room, the auto brightness will set itself to the lowest point you have told it you like. To adjust, go into a dark space so that auto will adjust to the minimum level, adjust to the lowest point you prefer and from there forward it will stop at that point on the minimum level.

That's a cool touch of Apple, huh? With my iPhone 8, it seems that Apple was confident enough with their Auto Brightness algorithm to just hide it under settings>general>accessibility>display accom. Left me confused when I first got the phone.

I can attest that the brightness adjustment is more seamless now.

Sadly, with ios 11 this is not the case any more. Now it has its own minimum level, regardless of you constantly rising it. Dont know why they changed it, battery saving possibly.

Mine still works as described. I can stand in total darkness and it will honor my minimum level selected.

In complete darkness, i put the brightness slider just above the sun icon. After i use the phone elsewhere, using it again in complete darkness lowers the brightness level to the middle of the sun icon. Every time. That’s apparently the new minimum.
