Auto ear detection issue switching between iOS 13 and 14

I can't seem to keep automatic ear detection off. My phone is on iOS 14 and my iPad is on iPadOS 13. Whenever I switch from one to the other the feature turns back on. I've tried turning it off on both devices when the AirPods were connected. Has anyone else noticed this issue?

I've got the same problem. Apple Support suggested me to escalate the issue to their Senior Advisor for further investigation, but that's gonna waste my time again for too long. I've seriously just about had it.

I realized that this is actually happening without even switching between devices. I connected my AirPods to my iPad today which was the last device I had used them with and auto ear detection was back on.

It srsly seems as if the issue’s fixed for me with iOS 14.6 and macOS 11.4!
