Hey all,

In playing around with the auto switching, I've noticed that the AirPods Pro is technically connected via Bluetooth to my iPad Pro and iPhone and will automatically switch beautifully depending on what I'm doing. But if I introduce the MacBook Pro (Running Big Sur) I still have to manually connect.

Is anyone else having this issue? Basically can only switch between iPhone and iPad, but not MacBook Pro.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I’m having issues with Big Sur too. However, I am not expecting Big Sur to be out within the next month, so I guess there’s still time for them to implement it...

Same here. I am on the latest of the Big Sur betas and no dice. iOS device switch works beautifully. However my use case is it go from an iPhone to my Macbook Pro for a work conference call.

Yep, this is really killing the experience for me as well. When I connect them to my Macbook Pro (Catalina), I have to force them to connect to my iPhone or iPad the next time I want to use them on those. I also wonder if it's going to work on WatchOS 7 when it comes out. I reallly like it between the iPhone and iPad though, it's a good experience that I can't wait to come to all the devices I have so I don't have to manually tell the device to connect and use the Airpods.

It's really annoying because in most cases I want to switch between iPhone and Mac and not between iPhone and iPad. It appears it just doesn't work on Big Sur yet.

I'm even worse off as I use it on my work MPB and it might be 6 months before they update them to Big Sur. I hope Apple backports this to Catalina, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've noticed issues as well if you throw an Apple Watch into the mix. I have an iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch and iPhone to watch switches fine (because those 2 have always shared AirPods connections) but if I try between iPad and Watch, I have to manually switch to the watch.

Is this feature for Big Sur only? I updated and am on Catalina, but the feature is not working between my iPhone and my Mac.

Yes this is a total let down. Also, has anyone been able to instant switch to Apple TV? I have the Apple TV HD (Not 4K). Is this feature limited to my device. Also, I have not been able to connect two sets of AirPods (Pro and 2) to the Apple TV for audio sharing. Is that limited to the Apple TV 4K?

I couldn't find any mention on the Apple site about Big Sur being a requirement for auto switching to and from a Mac, but an AppleCare rep today told me that is the case. I wish Apple would be more forthcoming about requirements for features. If it doesn't work on the current beta of Big Sur, it's possible that feature will be enabled in a later release. Really disappointing.

Mine isn’t switching from phone to iPad or back. Is there something we have to do to make it start?

I can’t get them to work with my first generation 9.7 iPad and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Both airpods 2 and airpods pro can’t work. No way to connect both devices to airpods together.

I’ve tried everything. Repairing airpods, signing in and out of icloud, restarting devices etc.

I assumed my iPad Air 2 would be too old for it to work. And I actually had it working and didn’t notice for 5 minutes. I had one AirPod pro in my ear as I often do in the house in case phone rings and I picked up my iPad for something and the sound came automatically out of my AirPod.

After a whole night of dealing with this, I finally figured what it was. I never had two factor authentication activated for icloud and apparently that is required. Gosh all that work and it was because of this. Apple could have let us know that this was required.

Automatic switching works for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac.

They demoed this at the keynote, they went from iPhone to iPad to Mac.
