I could never get auto switching to work between my iPhone and my Mac but it worked from Mac to iPhone. With the new iOS update it now no longer works in either direction.

Tried the usual logging in and out, repairing etc and no difference so it looks like the feature is now completely broken.

I switched that function off completely.
It never worked really properly and it might have caused battery drain issues.
I am going to wait until they sorted it all out, presumably with future software updates.
A bit annoying, but no deal breaker.
Most of the time, I am using my AirPods (Max and Pro) with my iPhone anyways.

It still works for me. Pretty happy with it but it does seem to have taken a step down in its reliability. It’s not unusable for me at all but I’m primarily going from iPad to iPhone. I gave up on pairing my AirPods with my Mac because it was just not a great experience. Can’t imagine auto switching would be any better. Also I’m still using Mojave so I’ll give it another go when I install Big Sur.

worked for me when i logged out of icloud on both devices. before it wouldn't allow the ipad and phone to connect to bluetooth simultaneously
