I have an older Apple TV, however I don't use the hard drive, I stream everything.

The issue I have is that whenever I download anything new to my iMac, such as a podcast or tv episode, I have to manually "sync" the apple tv in iTunes before it'll recognize the new material.

However, if I set the apple tv to automatically sync, it begins copying 160GB worth of material over to fill up the hard drive.

Is there a way for me to have it automatically sync with itunes, and still have it stream only?

Thanks.

I have the same set-up as you on Family Room TV, and I used to have the same issue as you, and I was able to find a solution.

1. Do you have iTunes set-up to 'Automatic Sync' or 'Custom Sync'. Keep it on Custom

2. Do you have it set to automatically sync "All Movies" or "All Unwatched TV Shows", if you do, uncheck that box and manually click on the Movie or TV Shows you want to transfer over to the hard drive (if you don't select any media, you are still able to stream them over if iTunes is open)
