Every iPhone I’ve ever had, my apps do not auto update … despite my App Store Settings being set correctly.

Have never understood this.

Anyone else?

I think auto update works, but on its own timeline. Everything that's new in your picture is an update from today. If you did nothing, they would update within a few days.

Interesting, I didn't know that. My natural inclination is to update the apps when I see that there's updates. I never thought to wait a bit to see what happens. I'll check it again in a few days and see if any of them updated. Thank you

It's the same for iOS updates. I tested it with my iPad for the 18.1 update and almost one month later the device don't show me an update is available or having automatically download it.

And for apps, if I don't update them manually. I often end up with ~60 apps waiting to be updated. This feature is simply broken for ages.

Yeah ... I just don't remember this ever working. I'm surprised this isn't talked about more! Wonder if Apple is even aware of it

And yes, same with iOS updates ... mine is set to automatically update ... never happened since the beginning of iPhone 😆

Do your apps auto update, or do you have the same issue?
Mine auto update. Some of the updates are days old when they finally update.

I’ve got 2 updates pending on my iPad now, one from 15/11 the other from 19/11. if I just wait they’ll update eventually.

I quit manually updating iOS and Apps a couple years ago and auto update works for me, it just takes a while..usually a week to ten days or so. I very occasionally check for updates (if I'm having a problem with an app) and sometimes there are twenty and sometimes zero.

Auto update has never worked for me, and I've owned iPhones for 16 years. A couple of years ago, someone said auto update works just not instantly, so I did keep an eye on it. I did not manually update anything for a whole month. Not a single update happened automatically; in a month, almost all of my apps needed to be updated. I think it's always been broken or at least not working properly for a lot of folks.

I’m in the @mrochester camp re why.

Had 12 apps waiting to update yesterday, spread out over 1 day to 1 week since new version released. 13 this morning. Plugged into charger, look again about 15 minutes later, all updated. And already had a list of apps that had updated automatically over the previous days.

So, for me, much like @WarmWinterHat wrote, not updating manually, they update (eventually) automatically.

So it DOES work! All these years and I just assumed this was a glitch that would never get fixed.

I’m going to do a little test and resist the urge to manually update my apps … and see if happens on it’s own 😎.

Thank you!

Just an update to say that my iPad Pro is still on iOS 18.0.1 and still never tell me there’s an update for 18.1 or even 18.1.1 that supposedly have important security fixes. Not even a red dot on my setting app. At this point I can obviously say that is not working at all.

I think you are referring to software update there and not app updates.

I've been paying closer to attention over the last week, and I do stand corrected - automatic app update is indeed working 👍. Seems like the apps take about 24 hours to auto-update but it's definitely working.
