Automatic Backups from NAS to Mac Mini attached USB Drive

I would like to know if anyone has setup an automated backup configuration to backup certain folders from a NAS to a USB attached HD to their Mac Mini (or other Mac computer)?

I have certain folders on my NAS that I would like to have automatically backed up periodically so that my USB drive which is included in my "cloud" backup will include all these important files. The only way I could get NAS backup to the "cloud" would be for a business type of account with the my online backup service and that isn't possible.

Carbon Copy Cloner has all those options. You can backup from and to network drives to local and USB attached drives and vice versa. Also has good scheduling options. You can also exclude folders from a primary drive when doing a full clone etc as well.

Heaps of options.

Try the demo version. I found CCC so good I went to the paid version only after a few days.

So, did you pay for the $99 service CCC to get your network/USB drives backed up? ....with the basic service I have so far I can't do that.

You want to back up your NAS to a USB drive attached to your mini right? You can do that with CCC. Its about $40 for the software. I am not sure what you mean by 'service'?

If you are talking about backing up a NAS and USB to the cloud then you could look at CrashPlan.

Sorry, yes I understand what you said. I was confusing this software with Carbonite backup, which the yearly fee is $99 for 1 computer and an attached USB drive. Thanks for the input. I'll check out CCC.

I downloaded and purchased CCC, it's awesome! Now, from all the research I've done. I realize it isn't wise to "only" rely on a could based backup system, however, the reviews and information I found on several cloud based services are very cumbersome when it finally comes to the "restore" function.

It sounds like "Back Blaze" is awesome, but a review revealed very poor restoration time. Since I have Carbonite, I can't back up to a USB unless I am on a PC or upgrade to a very expensive Business Plan.

I see you have Crash Plan? Do you like it and is it worth the efforts in regards to compatibility for a Mac system? Also, I read some reviews with one user who had terrible time with Crash Plan slowing down their system to a complete halt. Perhaps it was only a USER problem and not Crash Plan.

Yeah CCC is good. Many options.

For cloud backup I don't use crash plan. I use Dropbox, mainly because I have used it for a few years now. It works well across a number of Macs as well. Also you can easily access files on iOS devices etc. I only use it for core files of course. Otherwise I use CCC for creating daily backups of full drives and time machine backup or OS X.
