Dear forum members,

Is there a chance that the new airpod feature automatic switching will be supported on MacOS Catalina? I own a mid 2012 non-retina Macbook pro, which won't support Big Sur.

Kind regards

I don’t know why not. It’s an AirPod firmware feature.

  1. Automatic device switching works with AirPods Pro, AirPods (2nd generation), Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, and Beats Solo Pro. Requires iPhone or iPod with the latest version of iOS; iPad with the latest version of iPadOS; Apple Watch with the latest version of watchOS; or Mac with the latest version of macOS.
That's why not.

I find this confusing, because at the moment MacOS Catalina is the latest version of macOS, but after the new firmware release of the airpods pro it is probably MacOS Big Sur. Do you know how we can interpretet this?

This text is found on the Big Sur/iOS 14/iPadOS 14 preview pages. It refers to them, or future versions. It will not work on Catalina.

Okay, that is unfortunate. At least it will automatically switch to my iPhone 7 on iOS 14 :)
