When it says it has to re-start the computer, does that mean restarting VMware, or actually restarting the Mac?

If you are running it in Fusion, then just the VM ... press restart and it will do its thing, you can keep working elsewhere on your Mac.

Actually neither...
It means restarting Windows within VMWare Fusion
Windows is the only thing that needs a restart to update

You would not have to restart VMWare Fusion itself or OSX
