So one of the big features for iOS 12 was the automatic system updates which would install iOS updates after-hours for you. Doesn't seem to work for me. Has this worked for anyone else? 12.0.1 was used to test this feature with no luck.

I don’t have this turned on myself, but how many days did you give it to update before you manually updated? With millions of devices Apples servers can’t possibly do them all at once so I’m sure there is some sort of backend process to manage the volume.

Didn’t work for my wife’s phone either.

I personally think the update should be installed the very first night as long as it’s connected to power.

She manually installed it yesterday so it was a few days.

I’ve been patiently waiting to see if it automatically updates to no avail.

Perhaps it updates similarly to apps (over the course of ~7 days).

It worked for my personal iPad, it hasn’t updated for my work iPad. I think it just comes the night they push the notification that there is an update.

Automatic updates turned on on my iPhone 7 128.

Friday I got the red dot on settings.

I eventually got a notification pop up dialog yesterday (Saturday) asking me if I wanted to install 12.01 now, later or to cancel. I chose later and had to enter my passcode.

Then later on that night when my phone was plugged in and on Wi-Fi, it installed with my needing to ranger my passcode again (restart message).

Is this ‘working as intended’?

I kinda thought that the point of automatic updates was that updates would silently install without me having to do anything about it.

This has been there since ages. This is not an iOS 12 feature.

I wouldn't want to do this - #1 - I want to make sure a backup is done successfully before and update #2 there are times where people have a lot of trouble (not the normal eating battery ones) with an update so I want to time the update when I'm sure the software is ready. Look what happened with the recent Windows 10 update where all people's data disappeared - I want to manually time updates

I don’t have the option turned on, when an update comes out I update right away within a few minutes of it going live, not sure if the option works but I’m sure it will, maybe it won’t update right away but I’d assume it will within a certain time frame.

Adam.

Anyone get this to automatically update to 12.1?

Same for the Apple TV?

My macOS device automatically updated successfully day 1

Looks like mine worked this time. Woke up this morning and my phone updated to .2 on its own with no interaction from me.

Still waiting on mine. I’ve manually updated for each previous version so I’ve been waiting this time to see how long the automatic update would take to push.

My wife's x updated to 12.1.2 automatically. Seems like it worked as advertised. It took a few days so it doesn't automatically update on day one of availability

Mine automatically downloaded, but I manually installed it.

My Apple TV and Mac auto updated 5 days ago. iPhone always is last.

I wish they would update all devices on your account at the same time.
