Ok, first off, I'm a very integrated home with Apple devices, Google Nest and Amazon Echo (don't tell me I need therapy 😀).

I have an iPad in my master bedroom that usually just displays current time and weather. On this iPad I have Google Home installed which is connected to a Google Nest Doorbell. Everything works fine.

Here's my challenge....
I want to continue displaying the Time App (Nightstand), but if the Doorbell is pressed, I want to automatically bring up Google Home to display the video so I can see who is at the door. Is this possible in any way? Shortcuts? Automation? Some other App?

Thx for any insight.

I can't see anything in Automation or Homekit would allow this. Looks like it would probably be a security risk on your iPad as it would have to unlock the iPad first, so someone just rings your doorbell and then they have access to your iPad.

If you were ok with that i.e. non secure device, have you tried just leaving it in the Ring app?

Thx. Can certainly do that, but the key purpose is the constant time and weather. It is an older ipad so just repurposing it.

Sadly apple doesn't allow automations based upon video triggers.
But you should be able to have the ring app or google doorbell app open and give it notification permissions, so while it wouldn't go directly to the app, it would pop up a notification which you can click on to take you to the correct app.

I know that on an apple TV, it will popup when the doorbell is pressed, not sure if that's an apple thing or the doorbell camera vendor thing.

Anyways please keep us informed to what you figure out.

Good luck
