Hey guys

I am in desperate need for an automator action that allows me to scale an image with quality settings. in JPEG.

Preview's Scale result in a pretty large file.

I previously used Imagine Photo's action "Scale To", but it seems broken on the latest version of Mac OS X / Intel Macs.

I hate to say it but.... If you want quality results you're going to have to shell out some cash.
Graphics Converter (about $30 US) is perfect for this. Using the included automator actions I made a workflow that scales images by by 50%, saves them as jpgs at a desired quality level, and strip them of their resource forks.
Unlike preview the files get much smaller when you convert them.

Is this for WWDC?

Yep... it is for WWDC.

I just tried it, and strangely my file wasn't that much smaller.

Ok... just did it again. And it works! You just saved WWDC. ;)

I had downloaded GC earlier figuring it had to do this, but I didn't see the automator actions for some reason.

I used a 150KB image as my test subject; depending on the quality slider is would become anywhere from 20KB - 50KB when done. I thought that was pretty good. But results will vary I'm sure.
